The Dark Tower of Abyss

For some reason this song started playing in my head while contemplating the beautiful dark cloudy skies over Miami this afternoon.

Rhapsody Rape your Soul:

SWASHBUCKLE’s Cruise Ship Terror

So yeah I saw this posted over at Metalsucks first. Sue me.

I hadn’t heard any Swashbuckle since Zach played them on the show some time ago, but I don’t remember them being this thrashy/non-pirate sounding. Anyway the video is pretty cool and there’s some sweet shredding going on at the end there. The song’s alright, I’d rather listen to this than any Alestorm song, even if it doesn’t sound anything like pirate metal.

What the fuck is pirate metal anyway?

Jean-Claude Van Fucking Damme Motherfuckers

I can’t believe there’s so far 7 of you out there who don’t know who this classic action hero is. You people never cease to amaze me with your ignorance.

bloodsport
Van-Damme is the most underrated person in the history of cinema, since he’s not only an extremely gifted actor, but can literally kick whoever’s ass thinks otherwise on and off the stage in as much as 4 different martial art styles. “The Muscles from Brussels” has starred in many iconic movies that defined the action genre and always featured naked chicks. Naked chicks man, that’s my kind of fucking movie.

You should stop being a bitch and go out right now to Blockbuster or to your NetFlix queue and get these JCVD essentials: Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Double Impact, Universal Soldier, Maximum Risk, Timecop, Hard Target, Legionnaire and fucking STREET FIGHTER (where he plays motherfucking Guile, probably the role of his career).

No but seriously, as far as cheesy action movies go, he’s the shit.

More Fake Opeth Goodies

First there was counterfeit tickets, and now there are fake facebook profiles popping up claiming to be Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt.

Mike recently stated that he does not have any facebook pages, and any that you find are completely independent and have nothing to do with the true Akerfeldt.

I will bring these people down (to Chinatown) as soon as possible.

How To: Access Spotify from anywhere

Do you ever feel a little down when there’s a new music service that’s sweeping just about every nation except yours? Spotify is a service that allows you to listen to a HUGE library of full songs for free. And it’s totally legal. Of course if you want to download those songs you’ll have to pay, but while you’re at your desk, it’s like having the worlds largest music library.

It’s very easy to do this, and yet I couldn’t find any easy tutorials using google, it’s really just three steps.

1. Access Spotify (http://www.spotify.com) using a proxy server located in one of the supported countries.

As of this writing www.proxify.eu was working. If you have other working suggestions please tell me in the comments.

2. Sign up for an account through the proxy.

After you sign up, proxify will tell you that you have to sign up in order to download the file, if you used something like FoxyProxy, the download will probably be really slow, so don’t do it.

3. Download the program directly and install.

Spotify doesn’t seem to care what country you’re in if you’re just downloading the client, so outside of the proxy access the spotify download through one of these links.

Windows: http://www.spotify.com/download/Spotify%20Installer.exe

Mac: http://www.spotify.com/download/Spotify.dmg

I forgot there is actually a fourth step. This is VERY important, not doing this will keep you from using spotify.

4. Log In and start listening.

I’ve been playing with this recently and am really enjoying it, there Metal selection is quite wide including the full Windir discography and a selection from slightly more “underground” bands like Xasthur. While I didn’t fine any Thorazine or Mucus Membrane, I’m sure they’re working on it.

We’re All The Pirate Bay

Everybody probably heard of the spectrial against The pirate bay.

Now a Swedish artist called Montt mardie, decided to make a kind of anthem called “We’re All The Pirate Bay” which anybody and everybody can download for free and share with your friends and he also encourage people to make remixes of the song to show others that “We’re All The Pirate Bay”. (The song is damn catchy.)

Hey,

“An artist has got to make a living just like everybody else, there’s no doubt about it. And these are tough times, believe me I know. The thing is though, if I were to go back in time, 10 years or so, and tell the 15-year-old version of myself that over a night, 60 000 people had heard one of my songs, the first question I’d throw back at myself wouldn’t be “how much money did I make?”.

Don’t get me wrong, I love money and I want to make a lot of it. Bathe in it just like Uncle Scrooge. But money isn’t the main reason why I write songs. First and foremost I want people to hear them.

Times are so strage at the moment and a lot of people are angry and upset. Still, for each day that goes by I get more and more convinced that we shouldn’t try to fight the future, we should embrace it. Try to see opportunities instead of catastrophys.

I’ve written a song. I call it “We’re All The Pirate Bay”. It’s free and nobody will ever have to pay for it, though if you incist you are welcome to make a donation.

Take care, Monty

Alestorm Post Live Video

Alestorm has posted a live video clip from their upcoming DVD “Black Sails at Midnight”.

The clip is of their performance of Nancy the Tavern Wench at Wacken 2008. I caught the end of this set when I was there. The WET stage was ridiculously packed, they could have easily pulled a decent crowd at the Party stage.

I don’t know if it was an off day or what, but they were much sloppier on this performance than when I saw them recently, if all the songs are performed like this it’s not going to be much of a DVD.

Enslaved Tour Update

Ivar Bjørnson (Guitar) of Enslaved has posted an in depth up date of their North American tour with Opeth.

More than a feeling! We’ve never been to Boston before, so this was about time. What a city! The dialect made famous by JFK is worth a trip in itself (“haad liquor”, “who faated?”). The city is famous for amongst other things Cheers and its seafood, we got to check out the latter; the sushi was just beyond. We tried getting on one of the famous duck safaris, but they were sold out-we had to settle for a rubber duck and some duck lips (that were appropriately used during the set later that night). We found a store specializing in lobster souvenirs; we were inches away from Grutle getting a nifty lobster hat. Why hasn’t anybody thought of selling cod- and shrimp-hats in good ol’ Bergen, Norway? The local Trade Counsel should feel free to get in touch for some input.
