Van Canto drummer branches out
So we can all agree that Van Canto is silly right? Well the drummer has set off to make his own band, full of instruments and everything.
Sounds pretty good.
But he went and replaced guitars with one piano (that tries to play guitar riffs) and came up with this turd. And you have to read the bands Biography, with funny puns such as…
Traditionally, most rock bands are dominated by guitars. Not so the case with IN LEGEND, where the mother of all instruments is the “key” component: The piano.
OMG get it? Key, as in piano key.
FUCK YOU
Equilibrium Post New Material and Album Artwork
Equilibrium have posted the album artwork for their upcoming release “Rekreatur” as well as a song from the album.
The song, entitled “Die Affeninsel” (The Island of Monkeys) lolwut, is a quick jaunty number similar to anything you would expect from the band. With some fun instrumentation and keyboard work. Check it out at their myspace.
They are also holding a contest to design the cover for the single release for “Die Affeninsel”. Send submissions to equilibrium@nuclearblast.de in .jpg format, 300dpi, 15x15cm, smaller than 15MB.
Mille Petrozza on Peter Steele
As you may have heard, Type O Negative’s Peter Steele has passed away. Mille Petrozza of Kreator had this to say.
Peter Steele was one of my all-time favourite musicians ever! I`ve only met him once briefly and he was just the nicest guy! Carnivore`s “Retalliation” and all Type O Negative albums have been a huge influence on my creativity. This is a black day for music! Rest in peace, Peter.
Ensiferum on your iPhone
Ensiferum has now its own iPhone app. I’m not shitting you. Check it out for yourself.
It seems that the app first came into existence for phones other than the iPhone, and it was called Mobile Twilight Tavern, but now this new “Mobile Backstage” version looks like a more generic band app rather than something uniquely Ensiferum. Which makes sense, since the only techie band member they’ve ever had was Jari “200 Tracks” Maenpaa, and he’s long gone.
In case you’re wondering about what exactly this app does, here’s the breakdown:
- Get connected and join other Ensiferum fans from around the world
- Follow Ensiferum across the globe
- View material (text, video, audio, pictures) posted by the band
- View and comment on material posted by other fans
- Share your own material with other fans
- Interact with the band members & other fans by taking part in open discussions, or send private messages to other users etc.
- Integrated Twitter support
- Get SMS-like notifications from band postings and private messages
Awesome right? It is, if you like Ensiferum a lot. I couldn’t care less what they’re up to these days. Although that last half of that one song on their latest album was pretty sweet. If you’re wondering how good the app is, here’s a review by Persesilmä:
Tää on paras ohjelma ku saa tietoa parhaan suomalaise bändin tapahtumista ja vielä ilmainen!! Ensiferum fanien pakko ladata!
Thanks to paroxysm, our local Ensiferum nut, for the heads up.

Ryan Waste Announces Heavy Metal Side Project
The MUNICIPAL WASTE guitarist began working on the band, VOLTURE, in early 2009. They play straight up heavy metal in the vein of “MERCYFUL FATE, HEAVY LOAD, and JUDAS PRIEST”
Van Canto is at it Again
Apparently The University of A Cappella Metal has let out for spring break. So the staff decided to get together and record another ridiculous video for another ridiculous song.
I like how when they’re doing they “rubba duba dun duya buya” bullshit they’re all looking at each other as if they’re having an actual conversation.
So Dave Mustaine isn’t Always a Douche
From the Official Megadeth site
Megadeth would like to send out their sincere condolences to the family and friends of a fallen Droogie, Jeffrey Hendricks. Jeffrey passed away on Friday, March 26 after a battle with cancer. Jeffrey was to attend the Megadeth concert and meet ‘n greet in Memphis, Tennessee on March 23 but went into critical condition the night before and was not able to attend. After hearing the news that Jeffrey wouldn’t be able to attend the show, Dave Mustaine and the band gave Jeffrey a very special phone call. Jeffrey had met the band at a Megadeth concert in Knoxville in November 2009. The family has expressed their gratitude to Dave and the band for meeting and spending time with Jeffrey last November and for calling him Tuesday. They said that getting to meet and talk with the band really brightened the last six months of Jeffrey’s life, and they’ll always be extremely grateful for it.
I love it when bands really go out of their way for fans. And to know that they talked to Jeffrey multiple times show that they didn’t just make a throw-away phone call for good PR. Goodonya Megadeth.
Abbath Discusses Possible Immortal DVD
In an interview with Revolver Abbath talks about the video footage they took during the 2007 reunion tour.
We are also talking about doing a live album this year. I think it’s about time. Also, we hired a German film team to film us in 2007. It is edited but not exactly the way we wanted it. So we have all the tapes and we’re gonna fix a little bit of it, because if there’s an angle and everybody can see how fucking fat I am at the point I will take away that picture. I love food too much, but I’m fit. I jog. I exercise, but it takes time to get rid of that stomach. [Laughs] I’m just kidding. I mean you can’t see it all through the video, but there are some clips when the pyros goes off, and they don’t film from the outside, you just see it like one or two from the wrong angles or something. Stuff like that.
